Meeting Reports 2026

  • Henry VIII’s Grandmother: The Life of Margaret Beaufort
Stuart Orme – Curator of the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon – gave us an in-depth talk about the fascinating story of Margaret Beaufort: a wealthy and influential woman who is most well known as being Henry VIII’s grandmother – but this belies her strong influence on a key period of British history.
  • The History of the Kite, its streets and characters
Our popular speaker, local historian Mike Levy, gave us an insight into the history of what’s now referred to as the “Kite” area of Cambridge – though that name itself turns out to have been a modern construct, dating to when the whole area came under threat of demolition.
  • P. G. Wodehouse: Jeeves and the British Empire
Dr Sean Lang gave his fifth talk to the History Society and we were treated to a preview of his ideas about P. G. Wodehouse in his latest book, due to be published in Autumn 2026.
